About us at Chapel Tree Services

Chapel Tree Services, based in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire was established in 2005 by Matt Long. In 2015 his wife Jenny joined the business and it became an incorporated company. They now run the business together as Directors, together with a team of highly skilled tree surgeons and office staff. They pride themselves on providing a personal, yet highly professional, tree care service.

Matt Long - Managing Director

Matt has over 20 years of tree care experience and is fully qualified with an HND in Forestry, RFS Certificate in Arboriculture, plus all the relevant practical qualifications for Utility and Domestic Arboriculture. As well as working for various forestry and tree care companies in the UK, he has also spent time working in the commercial production forests of Finland and on the privately-owned Baronscourt Estate in Northern Ireland. In America, he spent 18 months as a Climbing Aborist with SavaTree in Boston, USA and in 2017 he was selected for deployment to the Caribbean with the Disaster Arborist Response Team using his skills to assist with the aid relief effort after hurricanes devastated the region. He remains passionate about trees and delivering the highest possible tree care to our customers.

Jenny Long - Commercial Director

Jenny is an experienced Business Manager having spent 15 years working in sales, customer care and management roles within the Travel Industry and since 2015 has taken care of all commercial, administrative and HR aspects of the business.

Jenny has volunteered for charity DART, supporting the media and fundraising campaigns for the Arborist deployments as well as serving a 3 year term as a non-executive Director to the Board of Trustees for the Arboricultural Association, a charity dedicated to the support and promotion of trees and the professionals who care for them.

Our Tree Experts

The Team

All staff are required to have all the relevant practical qualifications to allow them to effectively and safely carry out tree work operations. We also require more in-depth level First Aid training aimed at Arborists (EFAW + F) and the aerial rescue qualification and we support staff to continue to attend training courses to develop their skills. The team are all hard workers who enjoy what they do and bring a wealth of experience, skill and enthusiasm to our company.

Plus we work with a number of fully qualified, experienced freelance Arborists who support our teams.

Our staff are our greatest asset and they are all hard workers who enjoy what they do and bring a wealth of experience, skill and enthusiasm to our company. Keeping them safe is of paramount importance to us, so as well as all the relevant practical qualifications to allow them to effectively and safely carry out tree work operations, they also have to hold the more in-depth level First Aid training aimed at Arborists (EFAW + F) and an aerial rescue qualification.  We also support staff to continue to attend training courses to develop their skills and run in-house training days to practice rescues and develop climbing techniques.

Environmental & Habitats Commitment

At Chapel Tree Services we endeavour to maximise all opportunities for environmental enhancement while carrying out our business activities. We aim to protect wildlife and habitats, use resources efficiently, reduce waste and minimise any adverse environmental impacts of our activities. We are also committed to continual improvement in our work processes to ensure we find ways to reduce our impact on the environment and improve sustainability. We take our duty of care, under section 34 of the 1990 Environmental Protection Act very seriously and always ensure waste is properly managed and that we work within the guidelines and legislation designed to protect wildlife and habitats. Giving Back

We currently support a number of projects in our local community including the Ross- on-Wye Community Garden providing woodchips, log seats and a free Christmas tree chipping service. We also sponsored the 2022 Walford Open Gardens Scheme, support local primary schools with woodchips and materials for Forest Schools and continue to support the Disaster Arborist Relief Team.
